Summertime. The official definition is the time marked on the calendar beginning with the June solstice and ending with the September equinox.
Here in the US, there is an unofficial summer calendar where it begins Memorial Day Weekend and ends on Labor Day Weekend.
Summertime means something special to each of us. The word may evoke a pleasant memory or experience of a simple time. This memory may involve a visit to an ice-cream store or a picnic in the park. It may bring up memories shared with family and friends in a favorite seaside town where perhaps they learned to swim.
Many seasonal businesses operate by this unofficial summer calendar. Summertime for them means they have three to four months to make their year. It also takes a special type of character to go through this annual cycle of opening and closing their shops.
