Who We Are

I started my photography business in 2006, running it from a small studio in my home in New York City. I always imagined having a “brick and mortar” shoppe to show and sell my Fine Art Black & White (film) photography, but never seemed to find the perfect location. Last fall (2016) I found the spot I had been looking for in Vineyard Haven, a village of Tisbury, on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. (Across the street from The Black Dog Tavern).
Until next time.

about
Photographers if they listen to their heart, will find their truth in what they are destined to photograph. Each of us travels a different path as we refine our artistry to get to that magical moment where everything clicks and the vision is clear. Many times the subject matter will vary as we find our way; as one engages with outside forces this vision can be sidetracked. But as we experience life, undoubtedly the reason photography is in our heart will come shining through. This website is that journey for me.
The stories told here begin with a photograph. It is the catalyst for everything else. I am fascinated by what “once was”. And the evidence that still stands after centuries have passed.
The expression "A picture is worth 1000 words" is altered here on this website. A picture helps me uncover those 1000 words as I research and explore the background, history and future of these places.
Last night I participated in a lecture at the Museum of the City of New York. It was about Paul Rand, the Master of Design. As I listened to the panel discuss their craft I began to realize that all of us with artistic pursuits have similar challenges and successes. And to be successful in story telling, understanding the disciplines of both art and science is part of the pursuit.
Here are 3 quotes from Paul Rand I thought apropos and will try to keep in mind as I bring to you each story:

"In short, the notion that the humorous approach to visual communication is undignified or belittling is sheer nonsense."
"I hate words that are abused, like 'creativity'."
"Simplicity is not the goal. It is the by-product of a good idea and modest expectations.”
With great enthusiasm, I look forward to this journey.
